Bavaria's Foreign Trade

Bavaria is embedded into the global economy to a great extent. Due to their extensive imports and exports, direct investments and international co operations, Bavarian enterprises are important and successful partners on the world markets. This can also be seen in the Development of international trade in Bavaria (PDF / 15,07 KB). After the Bavarian export economy established an export record for the fifteenth consecutive time in 2008 with exports in the amount of 155.7 billion Euro, exports went down to 124 billion Euro in 2009 (- 20,4 %). The year 2010 however was a good year again for Bavaria and its export economy. It has certainly paid off that Bavarian companies remained committed to international business in spite of the worldwide economic and financial crisis. The sharp drop in exports during the economic crisis has already been largely overcome. In 2010 the Bavarian economy exported goods with a value of 145.1 billion EUR, a plus of 17.1 % in comparison to the crisis year. Bavarian imports rose by 19.7 % to more than 131 billion EUR and thus exceeded the imports of the record year 2008.

This export success shows that the range of products coming from the State of Bavaria is in great demand worldwide. Bavarian companies are strategically well placed in terms of global competition.

The Bavarian foreign trade policy supports Bavarian enterprises to set out for foreign markets, particularly small and medium sized enterprises. Bavarian foreign trade policy is closely linked to other areas like the improvement and internationalisation of vocational training and the setting of an advantageous framework for research, technology transfer and innovation.

Our joint aim is that Bavarian enterprises continue to produce and export worldwide competitive quality and precision work and that they are successful in the global competition, thereby ensuring prosperity and jobs in Bavaria. The export success in 2010 clearly shows: products "Made in Bavaria" are more than ever sought after on the world markets. Exports remain the driving force for the Bavarian economy.
